Home Projects

As mentioned in a previous post I appreciate Christmas and New Year because they give me the opportunity to celebrate the birth of my saviour, Jesus, Immanuel, God with us, and spend time with family and friends.

There is another aspect of Christmas and New Year that I appreciate. It allows me time to complete projects around the home.

This year I was able to complete several and start another.

The first was at my daughter’s home unit. The rear of the unit faces north and needed shading from the hot afternoon sun. I had constructed a timber pergola the previous Christmas – New Year. This time I was able to complete the installation of two horizontal bistro blinds. The blinds provide wonderful shade in summer and will slide under the eaves to let in the sunlight during autumn and winter.

The second project involved the construction of an outdoor table for my daughter and son-in-law. They provided the cast iron legs and while I had done some preparation the legs remained in storage in my shed for several years. Now the project needed to be finished. With left over tiles from the construction of their home and advice from a few sources including a couple of tile shops I was able to complete the project.

The third project was to fit a marble top to a sewing machine base. Again I had completed some preparation of the base but it to had sat in the shed awaiting my attention. A trip to the local masonry business with my wife to select the marble and get some sound advice from the supplier I was able to complete the third project.

The delivery of the outdoor table saw me collect from my son-in-law two cast iron ends for a further project, a bench seat. While I have completed some of the preparation of the cast iron ends this fourth project remains a work in progress.
